Every club worth joining has a sign-up table. There is a folding table by the door, a row of clipboards, a pen on a string and a cheerful woman who will absolutely talk you into volunteering for something. The Sewcial Seamstress Club runs the friendliest sign-up table around, and each design in this collection belongs to a different committee. Find the clipboard with your name on it. We already know you will sign more than one.
The seaside committee
These members plan the beach sew days and never forget the sunscreen. Breezy Quilting sets a vintage machine among swirling blue waves under a bright sun, and Seaside Stitcher lets a turquoise wave curl right over a machine resting on shells and coral. Feathered Stitches floats a little white machine beneath soft rainbow arches above the water, and Puppy Companion seats a golden pup at the machine inside a sunny stained glass circle, looking entirely too pleased with his seam allowance.
The garden and grounds committee
This group keeps the club blooming. Garden Stitcher covers a machine in tiny flowers while a few bees drift overhead, and Sunflower Sew Dayz wraps another machine in golden blooms and swirling blue fabric. Mandala Maker nests a machine inside lavender petals and lace, Boho Stitches frames a vintage machine with an ornate copper medallion, and Dripping With Color lets a machine melt into rainbow paint, which is what happens when the garden committee also runs the art table.
The hospitality and holiday committee
Somebody has to bring the coffee, and this committee takes it seriously. Powered by Coffee adds, in smaller print, and accurate seam allowances, which is the most honest mission statement any club has ever had. The Quilter's Christmas Tree trims an evergreen with spools of thread and tiny folded quilts, and Sewcial Circle loops soft pastel strands around a little red heart at the center. Queen Eliza Stitch presides from inside a postage stamp frame, ruffled collar and all, and a compass rose points straight to a vintage machine for the members who plan the club road trips.
Put her name down first
Think of the woman who organizes the potluck, remembers every birthday and somehow still finishes more quilts than anyone at the table. If she insists, like I'm Not Retired says, that quilting is hard work, or claims that Quilting Is My Cardio with a spiral of spools to prove it, she has earned a committee of her own. Choose the design that matches her job and let her wear it to the next meeting. Just do not sign her up for the one committee every club struggles to fill: picking the threads up off the carpet after everyone goes home.
