October gets to the sewing room before it gets to the rest of the house. The lamp goes on earlier. The good scissors go missing in a way that feels personal. And somewhere around the eleventh hour of “one more block,” every quilter hears it ~ a small sound from the stash shelf that was definitely nothing, probably.
The Studio has completed its annual investigation, and the findings are consistent with previous years. The Scraps Have Turned. The Stash Has Tenants, and they are not paying rent. Stitching the Moon is proceeding on schedule, which would be reassuring if anyone remembered scheduling it. The committee reviewed the evidence, looked at the seam ripper, and ruled the whole thing Well. That Escalated.
Wearing the season, not just sewing it
Here is the truth under the bit: a quilter does not decorate for Halloween the way other people do. She has been piecing the season since August. The porch gets a pumpkin; the sewing room gets a whole personality. These tees are for her: the one who says WITCH, PLEASE. I'M QUILTING. with the door closed and the bobbin winding, and means it as a complete sentence.
Every one of these reports has been catalogued in one place: Haunted Stitchery Halloween, the shelf where the season lives. Guild night, the grocery run, handing out candy on the thirty-first with thread still on your sleeve... these were made to be worn exactly there.
