Which Sewing Machine Are You? A Quiz for the Quilter Who Knows Herself

Quilters have strong feelings about their machines. We name them, we talk to them, and we can tell you exactly which one we learned on. The Sewing Machine Stitch Club puts the machine front and center in every design, set into sunrises, seas, mountains and pure bursts of color. So here is a quick quiz. Answer honestly: where does your mind go when the machine starts humming? Tally your answers, then find your match below.

Mostly sunrises: you sew with the morning

You are up before anyone else, coffee in hand, and the first seam of the day is your favorite. Your match is Rise, Shine, Quilt, a vintage machine silhouetted against a glowing purple and pink sunrise, the words arched over the top. You might also love Wake Up and Quilt, with its machine tucked inside a round burst of sunshine and rolling color, or Quilting Oasis, where a black machine sits at the end of a palm-lined river as the sun spills gold across the water.

Mostly water: you sew with the tide

The hum of the machine sounds like waves to you, and your best ideas arrive somewhere between the shore and the stash. Your match is Porthole Quilter, a round window framing a golden machine on a beach beneath a fan of sunrise rays. Lakeshore Breezes sets a machine inside a circle of moonlit blue swirls, calm as a lake at night, and Sewing Tides floats a teal machine on curling quilted waves beside a pale, full moon.

Mostly color: you sew with the whole rainbow

You have never met a color you did not want to put next to another color. Thread Mandala is yours: spools of every shade arranged in a radiant wheel, splashing color outward like fireworks. Alpine Stitching draws a vintage machine in fine white folk-art lines over mountains and pines on deep berry. And for the quilter who travels in a pack, Retreat Crew fills a machine silhouette with a dreamy watercolor galaxy, the perfect match for the friends who share your table every year.

For the quilter who talks to her machine

Scored a little of everything and simply need the room to yourself? Then your match is Leave Me Alone, the words lettered right across a rainbow machine silhouette dotted with stars and hearts. It is not unfriendly. It is honest. This collection belongs to the quilter who can hear a skipped stitch from across the house, the friend who still keeps her grandmother's machine polished in the corner, and anyone in The Stitch Circle who has ever thanked her machine out loud after a long border. Hand her this quiz and watch her answer in under a minute. There is no wrong result. Every answer ends the same way anyway, with the presser foot down and the next seam underway.
