Quilt Hair Is Spreading, and Even Bigfoot Has Caught It

This just in from sewing rooms across the country: quilt hair is spreading. The symptoms are well known to any of us who have spent a happy Saturday at the machine. A crest of frizz rising from the static of the batting, loose threads tucked in like ribbons, and a total, joyful lack of concern about any of it. Quilt Hair Don't Care is the home of our whole wild-haired family, and the latest reports suggest nobody is immune.

The flamingos caught it first

The earliest cases came from the flamingo flock. Flamingle Fawcett perches on a blossoming branch beside a tidy stack of folded fabric, her pink feathers swept into the most glamorous feathered style since the seventies. Featherina Stitché stands tall under a magenta cloud of frizz with a vintage machine and a glass of red at her feet. Bobbinetta Beakley balances on a branch hung with tiny spools, Squawklyn Spoolberg wades through a pile of fabric and thread, and Starla Flamingle keeps watch over a stack of pieced quilt blocks with a rainbow burst of hair and a look of calm determination.

Then the songbirds

From there it moved quickly through the branches. Curlene Spoolworth, all sunshine yellow, sports a rainbow crest while spools dangle below her perch. Peaches Plume is a round pink bird clutching a single quilt block like a treasure, and Ziggy Bobbin spreads bright green wings beside a sewing machine as if he just finished a binding. The regulars are here too: Chaos Finch mid-shriek on a patchwork quilt, Puffin Bea peeking out from a cloud of curls, and Frizzle Mae in sky blue with green spikes, sitting on her fabric like she means to hatch it.

Then it reached the forest

Here is where it gets interesting. Big Foot, Big Hair shows the legend himself hunched over a sewing machine, a patchwork quilt spilling off the table and his shaggy hair doing exactly what ours does. In Big Foot's Hairy Adventure he strides out through a quilted landscape with a sewing machine tucked under one arm, clearly heading to retreat. Even the llamas are affected. One wears a patchwork coat and a towering hairdo, and another has added cat-eye glasses and a cozy scarf in front of a Quilt Hair Don't Care banner.

Is anyone immune?

The research says no, and honestly, we are delighted. This collection belongs to the quilter who has answered the door with batting in her hair and never thought twice, the friend who shows up to guild with a pencil stuck behind her ear and a thread on her collar, and anyone in The Stitch Circle who counts a good frizz as proof of a productive day. You know who in your life has the most glorious case of it, and wears it best. The only known treatment is another afternoon at the machine, which, conveniently, only makes it worse.
