Quilters spend their days making things people stop and stare at, so it only seems fair to wear a little of that attention. All Eyes On Quilting gathers our boldest, brightest Chic Quilter art: spinning color wheels, exploding spools, comic-book speech bubbles and the word Quilt rebuilt more ways than one. Quiet it is not.
Stars and spirals that stop traffic
Bright Mandala spins a full rainbow of pieced blocks out from a glowing center, loose threads trailing around the edge like a quilt still under the needle. Rainbow Scraps coils strips of print fabric into a tight spiral that runs through every color on the wheel. Safari Star is a sharp pieced star that pairs bright solids with zebra stripes and leopard spots, Patchwork Star layers polka dots and busy prints into one big bold star, and Rainbow Star goes clean and faceted, every point its own color.
Pow, poke and ouch
Some of these read like a comic strip from the sewing room. Sew Much Fun fills a pop-art page with speech bubbles calling out Quilt It, Fabric Addict, Stitch Perfect and Patchwork Power. Prick Poke Pin Cushion gives a red polka-dot pincushion, bristling with pins, its very own sound effects, from Stab all the way to Ouch. Exploding Patches sets off a spool of thread like a firework, little stitched patches flying in every direction, and Scissors Explosion catches a pair of shears in the middle of a shattered collage of fabric squares.
Quilt, spelled out loud
Then there is the word itself. Quilt Glitch rebuilds QUILT in neon pixels, as if the screen can hardly keep up with all that color. Quilt Accents writes it in grey, textured stitch lines, the calmest piece in the room. And I'm Totally Unravelled lets ribbons of neon thread loop and tangle their way off a single spool, which is roughly how the last hour of any binding feels.
Made to be noticed
These are for the quilter who shows up to retreat in full color, the friend who has yet to meet a bright she didn't love, and anyone hoping a stranger in the fabric store checkout line will lean over and ask, "Do you quilt?" The answer, naturally, is yes. Loudly.
