The ballots are in, and the votes were counted at the cutting table. Resting Stitch Face Icons honors the true legends of quilting life: the machine that never quits, the coffee that keeps us going, the dog who keeps us company and, of course, the face we make when a point refuses to match. Every design here is a plaque for one of them.
Lifetime achievement: the sewing machine
No surprise who won this one. Garden Stitcher covers a vintage machine in white and pink blossoms while tiny bees drift overhead. SewJourner sets a machine at the end of a winding country path, framed inside a compass rose, as if every road leads back to your sewing room anyway. Fabric Universe swirls a golden sun and a teal wave into one round medallion with a machine riding the curl. Mandala Maker wraps a machine in lavender lace petals, and Watercolor Retreat Crew paints one in soft galaxy purples under an arched banner.
Most valuable player: coffee, with an assist from chocolate
Every legend needs a support team. All I Need Is Coffee & Fabric perches a steaming mug on a tidy stack of folded prints. Friends, Quilts & Coffee keeps it simple in bold black letters with a few sparkles. And Quilteontologist announces in bright small type that this design is held together by thread and likely some chocolate, which is also how most of us finish a quilt top.
Loyalty award and rookie of the year
The loyalty award goes to the dogs. Puppy Companion seats a golden retriever beside a machine inside an art deco sunburst of waves, and I Like Quilting and My Dog lets a golden sit proudly under the words. Rookie of the year goes to the faces themselves: Tongue, a patchwork flower with big blue eyes sticking its tongue out at the world, and Twisted, a spool piled high with rainbow thread and loops tumbling loose around the lettering. A portrait of an artist in a crown of roses, a patchwork quilt spilling across her lap, rounds out the gallery with a calm, knowing look.
Your nominations
Every guild has a quilter who deserves her own plaque. She is the one who has worn the same sewing chair into the exact shape of her, who knows the coffee order of every friend at retreat and who has trained her dog to lie on the finished quilts only. Nominate her, and let her choose the icon that sounds most like her. Induction ceremonies are held at the next sew day, and the acceptance speech must be shorter than a quarter inch seam.
