Loose threads get a bad name. Tailors snip them, mothers pluck them off your sleeve before church, and the dryer collects them by the handful. A quilter knows better. Follow one far enough and it always leads somewhere worth going. Sew Many Threads is the collection of those somewheres: the dog at her feet, the cat in the bobbin basket, the friends at retreat and the towns she has stitched her way through.
This thread leads to the dog bed, and the cat
I Like Quilting and My Dog keeps it simple in big bold letters, with a golden retriever sitting politely beneath a little sewing machine, clearly waiting to be mentioned first. Purr-fect Mess comes in two moods. In one, a fluffy black cat with enormous green eyes sits among the spools as if nothing happened. In the other, a gray tabby is wrapped head to tail in thread, looking not one bit sorry about it.
This one leads straight to her people
Retreat Crew glows from inside an A-frame cabin between the pines, a machine set up by the window for the long weekend. Quilt Guild Squad stacks three spools in purple and blue for the friends who show up every month. Resting Stitch Face sets a serene sister inside an embroidery hoop, hand stitching with perfect calm while the words circle the rim. And then there is the crow, wings spread wide over a sewing machine and a heap of patchwork, delivering one very direct message to anyone who interrupts: I'm quilting.
And this one leads out of town
The Stitchin' In designs follow her on the road. Colorado fills the state outline with peaks, pines, a winding river and a frosty stein. Denver builds its skyline from patchwork towers with mountains behind and music notes floating overhead. Dover pairs a lighthouse with a capitol dome and a waving flag, Detroit lines up vintage cars beneath a skyline trimmed in vinyl records, and Juneau tucks a harbor full of boats under snowy peaks. Miami glows in candy-colored buildings and palms beside the surf, New York fills its outline with a waterfall, green hills and a bright red apple, and Broken Bow rests on a quiet lake ringed with forest, a kayak waiting on the shore.
The one holding all the ends together
Think of the woman in your life who somehow connects everything. Her dog knows the sound of the machine. Her retreat friends know her coffee order. She came home from her last trip with a fat quarter from every shop in town. Look through these and you will find the thread that runs straight back to her, whether it passes through a golden retriever, a tangled tabby or her favorite city. And if anybody interrupts her while she is wearing the crow, well, it already said what it had to say.
