These Critters Are Looking for a Forever Sewing Room

Every quilter has taken in a stray at some point. Maybe it was a cat who wandered into the sewing room and never left, or a dog who decided the space under the cutting table was his. Resting Stitch Face Critters is our adoption day for the animals of Chic Quilter: dogs, cats, a fox and one very well dressed flamingo, all of them a little tangled in thread and every one of them hoping to go home with a quilter.

The helpers, eager and slightly tangled

Golden Retriever Helper and German Shepherd Helper each sit wrapped in a cheerful snarl of colored thread, eyes wide, above two proud words: Got it. Temperament: devoted. Adoption note: will assist with every binding, whether assistance is requested or not. A third pup sits beneath a vintage machine on a design that says what so many of us are thinking, I like quilting and my dog. No further explanation needed.

The cats, who have never once apologized

Purr-fect Mess stars a fluffy cat with enormous green eyes, wound up in thread among a scatter of spools and looking not at all sorry about it. Patchwork Smile gives us a grinning cat face pieced from bright scraps, Quirky Impact crowns a round white face with spiky patchwork points like a party hat, and Stitchy Face assembles a wide-eyed, long-lashed face from soft pastel triangles, the resting stitch face in its purest form. Adoption note for all of the above: they come with opinions about where the fabric should go.

The rare breeds

The Starry-Eyed Flamingo Quilter stands on her long legs in lace-up boots and a green scarf, holding a star block up to the light like a blue ribbon. Silly Fox grins out from a sprinkle of little stars, looking very pleased with whatever he just did to the pincushion. And Jane Good-stitch sits quietly hand-quilting inside a leafy wreath with a small chimpanzee at her side, patiently studying her progress.

For the quilter with a full house

These are for the friend who sews with a cat draped across her shoulders, the one who has fished dog hair out of a binding more than once, and anyone who counts the pets when someone asks how many are in the family. Choose the critter who looks most like the one supervising her sewing room right now. Adoption is free of paperwork, although the new arrival may expect the warm spot on the freshly pressed quilt top.
